May Gods blessing of Grace be upon you saints where you are and that you be continually sustained by His body and His blood within the covenant of Christ.
A pastor shared with me how they usually celebrated communion by a literal bread and literal drink, so I wanted to contemplate upon His doctrine and reflect on those scriptures by covenant to share with you.
1Cor:11
23“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the [same] night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25After the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me.
26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.
27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink [this] cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of [that] bread, and drink of [that] cup.
29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body…..”
Paul writes to us about the revelation he received of Christ of the manner in which believers partake of the body and blood of Christ. He was not an apostle yet when Christ took bread with His apostles and broke it and then took the cup and gave thanks and gave unto them . Paul describes this act of Christ by revelation given to him after Christ had called him also to be an apostle. This is important for when the church does not have true apostolic stewardship there is no true revelation from God in any matters of faith. The church will then revert to types, shadows, and symbols of precept, distorting and even affronting with misrepresentation and misperceptions of Gods plan and purpose having no reality in truth.
Paul the apostle received of the Lord and said, Christ took bread in the last supper saying the bread was His body that was being broken to give to them. This bread he broke was symbolic of His body that true believers were to ingest as they worship Him in Spirit and in truth, eating of His substance to become as He is, being the first fruits unto God. To do this in remembrance of Him is to come to the altar of Christ for He is the sacrifice for our transformation into His likeness, to do this in remembrance of Him is to be enlightened by grace that only He can be our nourishment our sustenance as we live by every word that proceeds out of His mouth. To do this in remembrance of Him is to be illuminated with His knowledge, that now His Altar is a living memorial of where we come for our faith to receive structure where the 12 elements of the gospel (His body ) have been given the value of Himself ( no design of mans imagination) so that we can have confidence before Him as this anointing ( His body) is placed within us by living apostles.
We do not remember a memory of what he did and partake of a literal piece of bread and wine to receive life, for Jesus said the flesh profits nothing. The words he speaks are Spirit and are Life. Christ made this breaking of bread and wine a simple illustration to understand its magnificent implication and benefit for us in the Spirit. It was not for it to become a fleshly tradition for our faith to rest upon. There is no reality in symbols types and shadows. Just as we have learned that the things of Moses were a type and shadow that only pointed to the reality of Christ who was to bring all things to their fulfillment. Types, symbols and shadows have no reality in themselves of the fullness of Christ especially for the cleansing of the conscience. Thus the bread and wine were only symbolic, and types Christ illustrated for the reality of the true table of the Lord to eat of Him of which as the scripture says, those who still prefer the shadows have no right to the reality of Christ. ( Heb. 13:10 )
Even as He after the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me. We drink the cup of the Lord not literally for wine, grape juice or whatever, for that cannot cleanse the conscience or bring about remission of sin. Jesus said this cup-( symbol,) is the new testament (covenant) in my blood. This cup represented the covenant that is sprinkled in His blood. There is no remission of sin outside covenant. It is the new testament (not cup in itself ) that has the cleansing by which covenant power removes the power of sin, for it is far greater. Jesus said “as oft as ye drink it”, praise God we have continued unabated access at all times to these holy things of His covenant. He said , as oft as we use those things of His covenant we do it in remembering He is our pattern. As oft as we use those power tools sprinkled in His blood we are remembering Him as our structure of truth, not as a past memory but keeping His presence present by covenant before our eyes that we faint not. Jesus said as oft as we eat His body and are drinking of this “cup” of covenant we are showing forth the Lords death until He comes. As we are partaking of these things we die daily in Him yet show forth the nourishment His death is providing. Showing forth the power of His death to bring remission of sin, that brought about a priesthood that reciprocates the holiness of God. Showing forth by His death the development of His fruit and virtues within us by these things. These are the things His death provided. We show forth the benefits of Christ death by His life within us. We do not partake of His body and blood unworthily. We examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith of this covenant that brings about this reality to our faith not deceiving ourselves. For we do not add our aspiration to what He has provided. We do not partake of a literal bread and wine for this only gives us a past memory in History and leaves us with our imagination of what he did for us, but nothing there allows for the reality of His fullness in the contact points of covenant. Putting literal bread and wine in our body does not bring about these benefits this is not truly discerning the Lords body and what it has provided.
His body did not undergo decay so we recieve of His body and we show forth by grace through faith its benefits toward us, The true provision for our faith, in communion with His true bread and true drink as Paul the apostle said, is received by His called apostles in covenant from the Lord , so come taste and see that the Lord is good!
